Walks in the Algarve
Various Walks in the Algarve
Walking is healthy! But that’s not all; some of the most creative ideas arise while walking. It’s also one of the most relaxed ways to discover the stunning surroundings when you join one of our guided walks in the Algarve, Portugal.
I, Anne, have been walking in the Algarve for over 19,5 years and know the region like the back of my hand. That’s why I love taking you along the lesser-known paths; not the typical tourist routes, but hidden trails I discovered myself or learned about from locals.
As your guide, I lead you through diverse natural landscapes and picturesque villages. Along the way, I share insights about nature, the surroundings, and Portuguese culture.
Walking in the Algarve is unlike walking anywhere else. Here, you can walk for miles without encountering anyone, except perhaps a lone old farmer. The landscapes vary greatly: one moment soft and colorful, the next rugged and wild. And then there’s the abundance of fresh fruit along the way…
We offer a wide variety of walks. Join us and experience guided walking in the Algarve! Here are some of my personal favorites:
South & West Coast Algarve
From our B&B, you can start with a long beach walk along Meia Praia, offering endless views over the Atlantic Ocean. At the end of the walk, near a river estuary, we can spot various native bird species. There is also a board walk along the beach of Meia Praia.
We can also take a circular walk through the rural hinterland, passing salt marshes and mussel beds, and even walking alongside levadas (irrigation channels).
A walk from the Lagos lighthouse at Ponta da Piedade is highly recommended. This coastal path leads you past striking golden rock formations. Each one more impressive than the last. As you walk towards the charming seaside village of Praia da Luz, you’ll be amazed by the views. Time for a relaxing drink on a terrace!
A true must-do: at least once, you should walk along the unspoiled and authentic west coast. Here, you feel transported back in time, surrounded by rugged cliffs and peaceful coastal villages where you can pause and unwind.
Silves
This walk is a true sensory experience. You’ll wander through orange groves, picking and tasting fresh fruit straight from the trees. After a break on a shaded terrace, we explore the town of Silves, soaking up a bit of culture and discovering its distinctive Moorish influences.
Monchique
Highly recommended: the magnificent 360-degree view walk. Imagine standing on the “top of the Algarve,” feeling truly on top of the world, with breathtaking views stretching all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.
The “Garden of Eden” walk is another favorite. Who wouldn’t want to wander in search of a sacred spring? Fonta Santa is known as a source of eternal youth! We follow ancient donkey paths through a lush valley, along gently flowing streams. Along the way, you can pick ripe oranges, plums, or peaches straight from the trees; truly a paradise.
I also warmly recommend the adventurous “scramble walk” through beautiful cork oak forests. There is so much to see and share before we end the walk on the terrace of the centuries-old spa Caldas de Monchique.
Moonlight & Sunrise Walks
For early birds, Anne also organizes special moonlight-sunrise walks during the full moon, as well as sunrise walks. Walking early in the morning, especially in the height of summer, is a truly wonderful experience.
